Dr. Somer J. Lyons

Dr. Lyons received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. She has been in practice in Minden since 2003. She is a member of the Contact Lens and Cornea Section of the American Optometric Association and is an InfantSEE provider. She is also active in the Sierra Chapter of Los Medicos Voladores and Soroptimist International of Carson Valley.

When not at the office, Dr. Lyons hangs out with her husband, daughter, and two dogs. She also enjoys trail running and reading.

Terrance Powers

Valley Eyecare & Eyewear Gallery is thrilled to have Terrance in our practice. He has 20 years of experience in the optical industry and is certified by the American Board of Opticianry. As an expert in lens materials, designs, and treatments, he is a great resource for any questions about your eyewear.

Terrance is active in his church and enjoys spending time with his family.

Sallie Pope

Sallie joined us in May of 2010 and brings her expertise in insurance billing. She has also been doing a great job giving friendly reminders for appointments and making patients feel at home when they arrive. In addition to her work at Valley Eyecare & Eyewear Gallery, Sallie is a student in the pre-med, pre-vet program at UNR.

Sarah Riley

Sarah is our newest staff member. As a Certified Paraoptometric, she brings experience in initial diagnostic testing as well as expertise in contact lens insertion and removal lessons. She is a Douglas County native and has been a great addition to our team!

Eye Health and Vision Examinations

We view your eye examination as an opportunity not only to make your current vision great, but also to keep it that way!  For this reason our examinations have two main parts.  The first is where we fully evaluate your vision to make it as clear and efficient as possible.  The second part is a thorough eye-health evaluation to view every structure from the lids and lashes all the way back to the retina and optic nerves.  By doing this, we are able to pick up subtile changes beforethey become problems.  Like they say, "An ounce of prevention..."

Have you been told you cannot wear contact lenses?  We love a challenge!  With our array of soft, gas permeable and hybrid contact lenses, we have several tools available.  There are few patients we cannot fit, and we are always willing to give it the college try.  We have patients in our office from age four to ninety-three in contact lenses.  Our Guaranteed Contact Lens Success Program makes trying contact lenses a possibility for anyone.  Read about it on the "Promotions" tab.
